Step I Greetings and Revision
Greet the students as usual.
T: Hello, everyone!
Ss: Hello, teacher!
T: Do you still remember what we learned yesterday?
S1: Yes.Yesterday, we learned about many differences between teenage boys and teenage girls. They have different attitudes on a variety of topics like school, hobbies and the future.
S2: They also have different types of friendships.
T: Great. You have a good memory.
Step2 Preparations
T: Today you are going to plan and concudct a survey and prepare an oral report to present to your class. Work in groups. You want to survey people to determine how attitudes between boys and girls differ on a certain topic. You were asked to choose a topic . Now get into different groups according to your choice.
The topics are:
favortite food
hobbies
the future
family
school subjects
music
(After the students find their groups members, let them read the step instructions and get prepared for the project. They need to find answers to the three questions mentioned in the handout first and then distribute tasks among group members.)
The questions are:
What is the primary purpose of our survey?
How many questions will we ask?
Who will take our survey?
The tasks include:
Write survey questions / Design the survey
Conduct the survey and calculate the results
Write the report
Present the oral report
Step3 Producing
T: While you’re preparing your report, you should remember:
Members responsible for writing the survey questions need to write multiple-choice questions that can be answered quickly and are easy to total when the survey is complete. The entire group should agree on and approve the questions.
conduct the survey and calculate the results. Add up the total number for each response and then calculate the differences between answers given by boys and girls.
Students writing the report need to briefly discuss the conclusions the group has drawn, based on the survey results. This should include the different answers given by boys and girls as well as similar answers.
Step4 Presentation
T: Now I'd like to give you 15 minutes to prepare it. Do follow the steps, and I’ll ask you to present your findings to the class in an oral report. Discuss the conclusions you have come to regarding differences between the attitudes of teenage boys and girls. Answer any questions your classmates have about your survey or results.
(Give the students 15 minutes, walk around and give help if necessary.)
After 15 minutes, check their work. If time allows, let all groups present their work. Help the students improve their project and if possible display their work on campus or post their survey and results on the display wall of the classroom.
Step5 Self-assessment
After class, let the students finish the Self-assessment by themselves and find out how they have mastered the skills in this unit and make an action plan for the items they aye not confident of.
