This 39 Saturday, Carolyn killed her first deer, as part of an all-girls hunting trip at Wildcat Mountain Ranch in Robert Lee, Texas. It is one of 40 supervised all-girls hunting trips that state wildlife officials are 41 around the country in an effort to 42 girls to try to help keep hunters from becoming 43 endangered species. According to a survey by the U.S. Fish And Wildlife Service, there has been an 11 percent 44 in the number of hunters nationwide from 1991 to 2006. "Girls and women has been an untapped 45 for us," says Greg Simons, director of the Texas Wildlife Association. Like pink camouflage clothing and fashion lines with names like "Foxy Huntress." They even sell pink rifles at places 48 the Academy Sporting Store. The efforts are 49 . "They estimate that within the last 5 or 6 years we've realized an approximate 75 percent 50 in hunting from girls and women," says Simons. "I think we're making some 51 there. " Simons argues states need money from hunting licenses to 52 wildlife protection. "If we do not do a good job of 53 our hunting heritage we will see a loss of wildlife habitat at a rate that's unprecedented. We can't afford to go there." Simons says girls often 54 the sport more quickly than boys. "They don't put as much pressure on themselves which allows them to focus and concentrate better " says Simons. Hunting opponents say this sends the wrong message. "We want to see children 55 animals, says Heidi Prescott of the Humane Society. It means that we live among competing interests. Your roommate’s need to study for an exam may take priority(优先) over pizza. Your instructor may have good reasons not to change your grade. And the object of your romantic interest may, alas, have other choices. In such a world, persuasion is the art of getting others to give fair and favorable consideration to our point of view. When we persuade, we want to influence how others believe and behave. We may not always win---other points of view may be more persuasive, depending on the listener, the situation, and the merits(价值) of the case. But when we practice the art of persuasion, we try to ensure that our position receives the attention it deserves. Some people, however, object to the very idea of persuasion. They may regard it as an unwelcome intrusion(侵扰) into their lives or as a control or domination. In contrast, we believe that persuasion is necessary---to live is to persuade. Persuasion may be ethical(道德的) or unethical, selfless or selfish, inspiring or unpleasant. Persuaders may enlighten our minds or take advantage of our weakness. Ethical persuasion, however, calls on sound reasoning and is sensitive to the feelings and needs of listeners. Such persuasion can help us apply the wisdom of the past to the decisions we now must make. Therefore, an essential part of education is learning to resist the one kind of persuasion and to encourage and practice the other. Beyond its personal importance to us, persuasion is essential to society. The right to persuade and be persuaded is the foundation of the American political system, guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution…… ---Michael Osborn and Suzanne Osborn, Public Speaking, fifth edition, pp. 361-362 56. But Norman Borlaug, an agricultural researcher at a Rockefeller Foundation project in Mexico developed methods of raising wheat that tripled yields. He later repeated his success in India, Pakistan and Africa. At 94-years-old, Borlaug remains feisty when recalling the fight to get bureaucrats and academics to accept his ideas. "Everybody was challenging and saying that this guy Borlaug was nuts and dangerous," he said. But Borlaug's scientific approach to farming allowed millions of people to live who would have otherwise starved. Although cancer has slowed him some ,Borlaug often engages in lively conversations with his granddaughter, Julie Borlaug.? She works at the institute named for him at Texas A & M University. "We talk a lot about agriculture issues," Julie said. "We will talk politics.? We will have a different conversation about alcohol or fertilizer prices and that is just a daily conversation with my grandfather." Norman Borlaug is one of the few people to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Mike McWhorter supervises the Institute's training projects and works closely with Borlaug. "Even at 94 years of age, he is always challenging us to think about the needs of people around the world," McWhorter said. Norman Borlaug's latest concern is a new disease in wheat, called UG-99. "This is a new strain of stem rust organism that has the power to destroy most of the wheat varieties being grown around the world," Borlaug said. He argues that cutbacks in agricultural programs have made it harder to respond to such threats. Julie says her grandfather's worry over such problems rises from a heartfelt conviction that hunger is unacceptable. "He still believes it is our responsibility as humans to feed one another," she said. 60. What is the passage mainly about ___________? A. problems about world population B. A. unbelievable B. unforgettable C. unacceptable D. unavoidable C A spirit of adventure, curiosity about different cultures and the desire for a challenge can be found in young people everywhere. More and more students in China are back- packing around the country. According to the China Youth Travel Service, Hainan, Dalian, Zhangjiajie and Qingdao were among the most popular spots for young Chinese backpackers last year. Backpacking allows the traveller a greater sense of independence. "I can no longer put up with the instructions of a tourist guide," said Huang Ye, a 19-year-old college student in Beijing. "They are always driving you to places that you do not want to go to and trying to make you buy local souvenir." Huang likes to travel as a backpacker. She preferred an independent trip that she took with two friends to Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan Province. There, they chose which scenic spots to visit and avoided the masses of tourists. Backpackers see the difficulties of such travel as a challenge. Living on bread and water for days on end, wearing the same clothes over and over again and carrying a heavy bag on their backs while climbing a mountain are all character-building experiences. But perhaps the greatest challenge that a backpacker faces is not a physical one, but mental. They may face loneliness if they travel alone. Chen Xuewei, 21, suffered when he took off around China last year. "I felt very lonely at the beginning of my journey. A walkman didn't make me feel better, but rather heightened (加重) the sense of loneliness I felt. I even called up my friends to tell them that I wanted to give up and go back to Beijing," he recalled. But he kept going. He started to make friends. He took lots of photos to record his trip and now he is glad he stuck it out. Backpackers generally find themselves to be maturer after their experiences. Their travel logs track their development as people. "When I feel frustrated, I read my travel log again," said Tang Weifeng, a postgraduate at Peking University. "By reading it, I get a sense that I am better off now than I was when I wrote those words by the light of a torch in a hot tent." 64. Which of the following is not mentioned as one of the advantages of backpacking according to the story? A. Through the experience, you learn to appreciate different customs. B. It builds up your character. C. Through the experience, you learn to rely on yourself. D. Through the experience, you learn to cope with loneliness. 65 . As a backpaker, the following items are vitaly important except ____________. A. A tent. B. Some water. C. A torch. D. Some souvenirs. 66. The reason why more and more students in China are back- packing around the country includes ___________. A. building up one’s character. B. allowing the traveller a greater sense of independence. C. learning to rely on oneself. D. all of the above. 67. According to the passage, which sentence is wrong? A. Backpacking makes the travelers maturer. B. All guides are helpful. C. A backpacker should be physically strong. D. There are many effective ways to drive away loneliness. D Although some guys aren't opposed to smoking some weed, most wouldn't think of eating one. It's a shame, really, since a juicy weed named purslane is not only delicious but also among the world's healthiest foods. Of course, there are many superfoods that never see the inside of a shopping cart. Some you've never heard of, and others you've simply forgotten about. That's why we've rounded up the best of the bunch. Make a place for them on your table and you'll instantly upgrade your health -- without a prescription. Why they're healthy: Think of beets(甜菜) as red spinach(菠菜). Just like surprising powerfood, this red vegetable is one of the best sources of both folate and betaine. These two nutrients work together to lower your blood levels of homo-cysteine, an inflammatory(引发炎症的) compound that can damage your arteries and increase your risk of heart disease. Plus, the natural pigments -- called beta-cyanine that give beets their color have been proved to be effective cancer fighters in laboratory mice. How to eat them: Fresh and raw, not from a jar. Heating beets actually decreases their antioxidant power. For a simple single-serving salad, wash and peel one beet, and then grate(炉烤) it on the widest blade of a box grater. Toss with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the juice of half a lemon. You can eat the leaves and stems, which are also packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Simply cut off the stems just below the point where the leaves start, and wash thoroughly. They're now ready to be used in a salad. Or, for a side dish, sauté(快炒) the leaves, along with a minced clove of garlic and a tablespoon of olive oil, in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Cook until the leaves are wilted and the stems are tender. Season with salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice, and sprinkle with fresh Parmesan cheese. 68. Besides the Internet, we can probably find this passage in a(n) ________. A. textbook B. advertisement C. poster D. magazine 69. According to the passage, the following sentences are true except that _________. A. The right order to cook the beets is cut off --- wash---peel---grate---season. B. Some superfoods are the same good for us as prescriptions. C. Some young people agree to smoke the weed. D. It turns out that the natural pigments in beets help mice fight cancer. 70. What is the best title of the passage? A. A delicious and healthy food-purslane B. What are superfoods C. Superfoods D. How to eat the healthy foods 71. From the passage we can infer that _________. A. Smoking some purslane does harm to your health. B. The two nutrients in superfoods, both folate and betaine, can increase your heart disease. C. You can eat the leaves and stems from a jar. D. Cook the stems tender with some seasonings and you’ll eat them. E It’s said that we human beings are the only creatures who refuse to be what we are. One writer said: “When people are free to do as they want, they usually copy each other.” Yet nobody can be you as well as you can. Every successful person becomes successful because he or she discovered and developed their own special abilities. As a guy said: “One of the hardest things about climbing the ladder of success is getting through the crowd of copies at the bottom.” So remember you are a specialist. You’re not made to be all things to all people. Surveys have shown that usually about 20% of all the people who know you don’t really like you that much. You just can’t please all the people all the time! So don’t try to have peace at all costs, especially at the cost of your own success. “Don’t stay where you’re tolerated , go where you’ re celebrated!” Be yourself. Be an original! You really are one-of-a-kind. You’re the first and the last person who will ever be exactly like you. Do you know that over 90% of all flowers have no odor at all? It’s the ones with a sweet fragrance and the smell that we remember. So don’t be afraid to be different, if it means being yourself. We’re like rivers. “If we follow the easy path of least resistance, it will make us crooked.” So don’t follow where the path may lead. Go where there is no path and leave your own trail. “You’re born an original, Don’t die a copy!” Too many people are like the living dead, they’ve buried their real talents and abilities. 72. What might be the best title for this passage? A. Where there’s a will , there’s a way B. You can’t please all the people all the time C. We’re like rivers D. Be an original! 73. What does the underlined word “crooked” mean in the last paragraph? A. regular B. not straight C. successful D. die 74. What’s the author’s attitude towards the “copy” mentioned in the passage? A. critical B. favorable C. suspicious D. optimistic 75. Which of the following statements is True according to the passage? A. People are made to be all things to all people. B. All flowers have no odor. C. Somebody will be like you. D. If you try to have peace at the cost of your own success, you’ ll be celebrated. 第II卷 (满分35分) 第四部分:写作 (共两节,满分35分) 第一节:短文填空 (本节共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分) 请认真阅读下列短文,并根据各题所给的首字母的提示,在答题卡右栏中标有题目的横线上,写出一个英语单词的完整、正确的形式,使短文通顺。 With the increasing (76) d__________ for water, lacking water 76._________ may become more (77)s_________ by the year 2025, which can 77._________ bring such severe problems as (78)d__________ and international 78._________ conflicts.
